With over 130 years of experience, P. Nelis & Zoons is a leading player in the flower bulb cultivation and export sector. From Heemstede and Schagerbrug, flower bulbs are carefully stored, prepared, and shipped to customers around the world. The quality of the flower bulbs depends entirely on a stable storage climate. This is where door technology plays a key role.

The Challenge: Rebuilding and Innovating After a Fire

After a fire in part of their Heemstede facility, P. Nelis had to act swiftly. Restoration was necessary, but there was also a forward-looking approach. The company took this moment to not only restore production and storage capacity but also modernise and expand it.

This led to a future-proof plan for efficient, climate-controlled flower bulb storage. Ten new storage cells were built, eight of which were made suitable for gas-tight ULO storage.

For successful implementation, reliable, airtight doors and passages were essential. This is where Salco made the difference.

Salco Doors: Reliable Access to Climate Control

For this project, Salco supplied various doors for flower bulb storage. Each door seamlessly meets the technical requirements of the storage cells.

Gas-tight Refrigeration Sliding Doors with Inflatable Seal

For the ULO cells, we provided four gas-tight sliding doors with inflatable seals. These doors are specially developed for ULO and CA storage and offer 100% gas-tightness.

Benefits of the gas-tight doors:

• Inflatable rubber seal for a perfect closure

• 100 mm thick lightweight polyester door leaf

• Cold bridge-free design, suitable for temperature-sensitive products

• Easy air pressure control via pressure gauge

• No extra materials like sealant or petroleum required

Gas-tight Ventilation Hatches

In addition to doors, we also supplied gas-tight windows, which are essential to guarantee oxygen-deprived conditions in the cells. These provide visual inspection without disturbing the airtight atmosphere.

Overhead Doors for Logistic Efficiency

Four overhead doors were installed for general access to the production and storage areas. These doors are designed for high-frequency use while contributing to a stable indoor climate.

Insulated Sliding Door Wall for Flexible Access

For large-scale access to the storage areas, we supplied a PKD-100S sliding door wall. This door is constructed from 100 mm thick sandwich panels with double seals.

• Superior insulation with polyurethane core

• Flexible design with multiple sliding panels for wide openings

• Magnelis steel under-rail – durable and flush-fitted
